So what's your stance on it?
Personally, I don't care nor mind about same-sex marriages. This is pretty bizzare given my conservative religion.
However, I think that if two people, regardless of their sex, who love each other, want to live together, and are productive members of this democratic society, I don't see why they should be prevented from having the same rights and privileges as married couples. I even applaud these people because from what I see, they tend to be more faithful to each other and last longer.
I see heterosexual marriages breaking everyday some of the time over mundane reasons and marriages between a man and a woman that is not based on love, honesty, and respect. I don't understand why then those marriages would be held on a higher pedestal than same-sex marriages!
In the US, Bush has been a long-time advocate of the so-called "Marriage Protection Law". This man is the butt of every joke imaginable. I don't think that he saw the clause in the United States constitution that specifies the separation between church and state. Since he is against same-sex marriages, then that means that he is interweaving church and state. You CAN'T DO THAT. He is imposing his Christian views on other people through the law of the land which doesn't have the right to tell people what to do! That's the right to privacy he's infringing on!
I also hate that arguement about God "condemning those[/] people". Aren't they His children too? Doesn't He love them as much as everyone else? So if God sees his children who are of the same sex loving each other as they should in a marriage, then that means they're going to burn in Hell? Oh, please...
I think what people don't agree with is the term "marriage" being applied. Here's all they're asking: that they be given the same rights and privileges as other couples to file taxes together, be the next of kin in cases of emergencies, become parents, etc. The term is irrelevant. It's what entails that term that is the main focus.
Sorry, I just had to vent. Here's the article that got me riled up...
